natural looking hair.

Arion McBride Says: Hey Calis, First off I wanna say great windswept
look. Try an bear with me my first critique an I'm pumped ^_^ FIrst off
I want to concentrate generally not so much on just skills but also on
the other more artistic importances. Atmosphere, symbolism so on and so
forth those in my opinion can are as much and sometimes more than pure
skill. I love the windswept look. Windswept hair or material blowing in
the wind or folds or aythnmg flowing can add great amounts to a drawing.
Good job I tip my hat to you. Added to that with so many mediums to choose
from it's really nice to see people going back to the basics, pencils
and inkings and so on and so forth. I love C.G. but I highly respect people
that create everything on their own with no aids. I like your hands too.
The shading style you used and even the form reminds me of a North american
Artist I can't rememer but he worked with spiderman and it's very much
marvel D.C. type shading there. It's excellent to see blendings of styles.
Some of those techniques used right with anime and eastern european art
produce very powerful results. I love the hair the most. Most triumphant.
Are you anti Aliasing your text? It would lose some of that blocky form
but don't worry about that. For me I'm my worst critic. I think most artists
are. I still love the hair. The strands were nicely done. One thing I
am curious of, what is the series shadows falling and were there any symbolisms
in hidind the left eye from view? It's a nice effect. I'm just curious.
Kind of an opposite to the center of focus idea. Keep up the good work.

Lorelai Says: Wow, geeze Calis! Every time I look at your work
I remember that four-piece Xenogears fanart you sent to RPGamer back when
I didn't even know what Xenogears was. You have come an extraordinarily
long ways! You've improved 10 fold! You're making me choke from excitement!
=) Anyway. The hand and hair on Shitan-sama are gorgeously done. You have
a great touch on the hair...much less problems than most people. I accolade
you for sticking to "natural mediums" when the hype these days
seem to run in computer graphics. If you want to make hair more windswept
and luscious (and Shitan-sama does have luscious hair, ehehe) then don't
put so much detail into each strand. Make your strokes as carefree and
light as the hair is. Also keep in mind, when shading, where the light
source is and how each strand of hair reflects. This is absolutely breathtaking
Calis, did you cheat or anything?? J/k...I'm so excited for you; keep
up the improvement, and I look forward to seeing more pictures from you!
