Personal website: http://obsession.simplenet.com/
Self-estimated level: intermediate
Artist's Comments: I've been drawing almost consistently for 7 years now,
so I guess that qualifies as Intermediate. ^_^ I actually drew this picture because I wanted
to apply as a REFF, but I decided to see if anyone liked my artwork first. -_-;; This supposed
to be me, drawn in my favorite outfit...(Yes, that's my favorite outfit) although I usually just
wear t-shirts and jeans. ^^;;

Lorelai Says: Hoihoi Killashawndra!! Wow, snazzy self-portrait! The
eyes and the hair I especially like. There is a problem with the foot...did
you notice your self-portrait seems to be stepping on her own left foot? Ye
need to judge the distance with more thought beforehand, make sure the heel of
the front foot doesn't rise above the back foot. Also, the calf of the front
foot bulges a bit strangely. Look into the shape and size of calf muscles and
you'll notice that the front part of the leg does not bulge much at all...the
muscle is in the back. Your figure has no knees I can see. But you did a very
good job on the top part of the body! Next thing is to ink your work, or use
thinner pencil so we don't get that oogly thick gray lines. The background is
a bit glaring and distracting from your portrait too. Most of all, SHAAAADE
more!!! You have a great sense of roundness and depth, show it off! ^_^

Min Kwon Says: Hoi, I can tell you've practiced a lot! ^_____^ You know
where to shade, what color to use, and how everything should be placed (ie.
the way the hair falls). Have you tried the mirror trick? Try holding your
sketch against a light source, or hold it in front of a mirror and see it
horizontally flipped. It'll help lots in doing symmetrical faces and finding
other mistakes as well. Faces seen directly from the front is insanely hard
to draw (you did a good job though ^^), so always try the mirror trick with
them~! Hirm, and maybe make the hips a bit wider to make the figure look
more balanced? And I'm not sure if you intended this kind of look, but
because the background has more contrast than the character, the pic kinda
looks unfocused. Thought I'd just point that out in case you didn't intend
^^

Meriko Says: Don't mess with your taste in clothes. ^^ I like yer
outfit! You didn't ask for any specific areas to be critiqued, so here
are my general comments. The first thing to catch my eye was the
zebra-striped background. It's a bit distracting, since your picture is
mostly in black and white also, with just a bit of peach & brown to liven
things up. The proportions seem all good to me. *thumbs up* I'd love
for you to try bolder shading and highlighting, though. The hair in
particular, although nicely detailed, could use some more depth. That
would help heighten the impression that you're bending your head
down. All in all, very nice piccie. *yay, another color-pencil
artist!* Oh, and if you want to try for brighter, smoother colors, ye
might want to ink and then smudge your colors with a Q-tip. Just a
suggestion. Lovely artwork (nice outfit, too!) and keep up the good
work!!! *applauds yer art*

Maggie Bradshaw Says: Wow! I really like the expression and position of you character.
I also find it very interesting that you drew her in an anime style but
with realistic porportions, thats kinda nice. I guess the only suggestions
I can make are just a personal preferance matter. That nice soft coloring
of the picture contrasts a little too much with the solid black and white
background. It just strains my eyes a little to focus on the drawing
itself, so the background kind of steals form the main picture a little.
And her hips are a little narrow, but like I said, that just a personal
thought ^_^ Keep up the great work!
