Artist's Comments: Ummmm... mainly I want some advice on details, and... just curious why none of my stuff is good enough for the RPGamer gallery... hope y'all can help me out. I don't really care who critiques this... just anybody!!

Well, I do a lot of impressionistic painting in Acrylics, but Anime-ish drawing is my hobby. I've been painting since I was old enough to hold a brush, and drawing for about a year and a half.

Kon Says: Wow! you have quite a number of characters.. and since it's a realatively small pic... it's already looking quite detail. Adding more details will start to make it more clutter. You already have the basic details there... if you want to add even more to that.. I would say add in wrinkles, hightlighs and shadings.. you have to be careful though.. if done individually, the details will start to .. "mesh" together... and it'll be hard to tell where one character ends and another starts. If you do want to take this route.. try to shade it with separations in mind.. as in.. When you shade in a guys's arm dark.. then the character overlapping that arm shouldn't be shaded dark too... do the same for highlights... You also might want to think in terms of a backlight. So the guy's arm that is dark will have a thin highlight on the backside.. helping it separates. IMO.. when working with artworks... it's better to have the shading help separate the characters than having realistic but confusing shading.. =D

Meriko Says: Nice~ Very cute picture...don't say you're "not good enough!" ^_^

General tips: You've got a ton of charas here, and they're all standing and smiling like it's for a school photo. *giggle* What would make this pic come alive is if there were less people to have to look at, and if they were posed more dramatically. It doesn't have to be a full-on action shot...just something to capture the interest and make the viewer look twice, thrice, etc.

Unless you're drawing on a humongous posterboard, it's also hard to scrunch a billion characters into a pic without running out of room to insert nice details that make a picture stand out as well, like intricate details in clothing/hair, or really in-depth shading jobs.

Anyway, good job, and good luck! ^_^

Lorelai Says: Well, I guess i'm the one who really should do this crit, considering your question ^____^;;; Hewo! Nice piccie :D I've seen it a lot, yupyup. It's really memorable and cute! Great composition and I love their expressions on da faces. :D Now, regarding why it never appeared on RPGamer...It has to do with its overall appearance. Craftsmanship, in a way. There are a lot of things involved, and because this is a very nice pic, i don't want to sound..hum, mean...but ye should know that (1) when I curated on RPGamer, each pic had near-professional quality craftsmanship. Your pic was up against some very stiff competition, and unfortunately it had to be judged on equal terms, since space was limited. (2) Also, there are some basic things such as coloring in a uniform direction, facial/body structures of both SD and non-SD characters, and proportion/symmetry that all make a picture look more "polished." I noticed that at RPGamer, many young and budding artists did not get as many chances for posting as other art sites because the competition was simply crazy! I don't know why...! It wasn't that way before (and after - well at least not yet) my tenure at RPGamer. Doi. Well, I didn't give you much of a crit, but I answered a portion of ye question, hope it did some good!!! ^_____^ Keep up ye good work.
