Artist's Comments: Ummm, I dunno, I really just wanna hear what you guys have to say... I'm just confused, ok, whatever, ummm, everything in general... I dunno...
Um, you see, this thing is just a random pile of blah that I threw together after hearing a story being read to me, I guess that the entire thing is symbolic of the tale that the author was weaving for us. I was "inspired" as one might say... to go off and draw... And so I did.

Kyubi Kitsune Says: Okay, first of all, I think you have a great start... but something that I think is very important in ALL art pieces are these 5 things: composition, balance, directional force, rhythm, and emphasis. (amongst other things.)
What you have is a great plan which I think you could go back to and refine. I like how the composition moves from one object to another in a nice flow. However, I think there should be a focus to your piece.. something that everything moves back to. Right now, I'm tempted to think it's the lips of the large face... or maybe the person in the little house with their arms raised. You should also consider using color to give more "dimension"/depth to your piece. Right now it, it's rather flat. I don't suggest you put *everything* into higher contrast, but some areas to help give focus to your piece. ^_^ Good luck~!

Lorelai Says: Hi there! This reminds me of a Simpsons episode that was on the other day... "This is what we call 'Outsider art!' ... pure, raw human emotion" or something like that. I think that's what you've got going here. ^___^ Since it is abstract, There isn't anything concrete we can crit you on...but I'll tell ye something, i dont' think it's to the benefit of any artist to include "I'm too lazy" in their comments. it doesn't speak well for the artwork, whether it be large or tiny. Another thing is...maybe I'm reading ye comments wrong, but I don't think ye have much respect for your piccie! O___o I realize comments are lost via e-mail and online text, but still ^_^;;; be careful, words/interviews are especially important from the artist when the art is abstract! The most important advice I think I can give you at this point is to have confidence and faith in your creating skills if you are serious about experimenting. however, if you simply don't care...ye should not expect others to care, either! ^_^ Anyway, I hope ye choose the path in life that you enjoy most! Take care :D

Setsuna Says: I don't want to be going off on a tangent, but I wasn't really pleased with how you presented your image... Along with a huge overflow of information, you began your description by degrading yourself, telling us how "everything I do eventually turns into a mishmash of junk"... At first I felt really angry at your tirade, but after a little consideration, I can understand your feelings. Please don't feel like you need to do this to yourself. I know that everyone feels an urge to add a 'disclaimer' to their images. But obviously you had enough pride and good feeling about this image to send it to us and allow it to be posted on a public forum.
As for the image itself, though it's not the straight forward character fanart that I'm used to seeing, I am happy with the flowing succession of images that you have produced - a slightly disturbing image of the world.
You could improve this image by polishing off the coloring job - Instead of relying so heavily on the airbrush tool, paint more boldly and clearly with the paintbrush tool for the objects that you want to appear closer to the viewer (for example, the large crayon, the rubble and the bleeding body in the foreground). The magic wand tool is really handy for making selections on black and white drawings.
To paint under the lines in Photoshop:
(If you need extra assistance or clarification on this, please email or refer to a tutorial)
I'll assumed that your mode is set to 'RGB'. Open the image, click on the 'channels' tab in the toolbar.
Select the 'Blue' channel, and right click to duplicate the channel.
Now you have a second channel, named 'Alpha 1' or such...
Go to 'layers' and add a second layer above the background.
Now, find the option on the top toolbar that says 'Selections'... Select 'Load Selection'.
In the dialog box, load 'Alpha 1' as a selection.
Now, the dialog box closes and you should see the line art as a marching ant selection.
go back to the same option and click 'invert selection'.
Click on the 'fill tool' and fill the selection with black.
Now you have a transparent lineart layer that you can color underneath, keeping the lines visible!
