 Chatroom FAQ

• How do the channel authorities decide who gets banned?

The channel operators consist of the REFFs, and several unnamed (sometimes unmarked by any symbol in chat, either) helper moderators. These channel authorities keep an eye on the chat to make sure everything's running smoothly most of the time. However, we can't see everything, and so, we are also very alert for private complaints from the chat members. If more than three people register a complaint against an individual, the REFFs/ops meet in private and discuss the matter. If more than three REFF/ops agree with the complaints (based on personal witnessing or logs sent in by complaint filers) then we set a week-long ban.

• But I didn't do anything! I wasn't even in the channel when I got banned!

Remember, the complaints are filed in private, and they accumulate. If three separate people complain about your behavior (and in a short amount of time, especially) then we may set the ban right after an additional three channel authorities confirm it, regardless of your presence. However, our policy is to always send a notification memo to your most commonly-used nickname and/or e-mail.

• Who banned me?

You did. No, seriously. ^_^ Read the above procedure of how bans are decided... normally, you don't get banned unless three individual chatroom users and three individual chat authorities have voiced a complaint regarding your behavior. That's quite a number of people.. they can't all be in the wrong, can they?

• You guys are (censored raving) for banning me!!!

Ehehe, get a cup of tea and sit down, buster XD First of all, the ban is temporary. If it's a first offense, the ban duration is only for a week, and then it will be lifted. However, BE WARNED...if we allow you back into chat, and the first thing you do is to throw a big wad of hatred at the authorities for banning you, or try to hunt out the person(s) who banned you, you may be bidding your chat privileges a permanent goodbye...!

• It's been a week, why can't I get into the chatroom still?

Was it a first offense~? If so then memo Lorelai about it. get onto Esper.net, then type the following command: /msg memoserv send Lorelai [insert memo text here] and press ENTER. that will send Lorelai a message, which she will receive once she's online. She'll either get back to you or lift your ban, or both.

• Who/what are the 'Hidden' Ops?

They are the people that look like normal chat users, but actually have phenomenal cosmic powers!...within the channel, meaning they can kick/ban just as if they had a @ (op) status. We don't really publicize that information, so as to keep you on your guard ^_- but sometimes we do make their status apparent by 'voicing' them in the chatroom (so they have a little plus sign next to their name. See message blow about ArtBot for more info!

• Can I get ops? Can I can I? PLEEEEEEEASE!!!

...No. Sorry...

• Who is ArtBot? It seems like a bot, but it talked to me!

The REFFs and the operators of #ArtCorner have powers to communicate through ArtBot. Therefore, ArtBot is not one single person..nor is it discernable who it is at the time of usage, since a number of authorized people (including people not in the actual #ArtCorner chatroom itself) can speak through her (Yeah, ArtBot's female!). Oh, and most importantly, these authorized people can also kick/ban through ArtBot...see above message about 'Hidden ops.'

• No visible ops are in the channel now, and ArtBot's not here/is deopped, so I can goof off now, NYAH!

The channel is a really tightly knit community, with a lot of experienced chat members. If you get too rambunctious, the news will travel to the REFFs through disgruntled chatters, and then I suspect you'll probably get into more, er, trouble...

• How do I report a really annoying and/or rule-breaking chat user?

There are two choices..you can memo Lorelai by typing /msg memoserv send Lorelai [insert memo here] while on IRC Esper.net, or you can go to TAC homepage (www.artcorner.org) and send a message to the REFF via their 'contact' page. (set the pull-down menu to 'Other Feedback') We'll log your complaint immediately. It'd also help if you could send us a chat snippet or log to back up your complaint...if you have a chat log, send us a URL or catch a REFF/op in #ArtCorner chat!

• So what kind of behavior is unacceptable, exactly?

Please read our Chatroom Rules.

• Do we have to talk about Art in the chatroom?

Of course not. ^_^ As long as you abide withint the Chatroom rules, you can talk about anything you wish. And, yes, some really hilarious, insightful, indepth, and plain crazy chats have resulted in chat despite 'all the rules' ... ^_^

• Can I plug URLs in the chat? What kinds of art are ok for plugging?

You can plug, but don't overplug. And don't plug-and-run! As for types of art, any art that would be fit for a critique on the ACS is fine (which means, no copies, swipes, replications etc.) In addition, please give sufficient warning before plugging a possibly offensive picture (such as pictures containing excessive violence, nudity, or sexual innuendo).
